Wanderers Win 2nd Grand Final Poznań

The Wanderers secured back to back Grand Final appearances in just their second season in the A-League after defeating Central Coast in the sudden death semi final at Parramatta tonight 2-0.

A sell out crowd were treated to a spectacular match that was also a Grand Final replay. Central Coast was able to contain an in form Wanderers last year from a maiden Grand Final victory. Both sides were backing up from Asian Championship games with Central Coast on arriving back from Japan on Friday.

Central Coast played a solid first half and was unlucky to be behind at the break. Western Sydney dominated the middle of the half with a series of good chances that kept the crowd on edge.

The Wanderers scored the first goal of the match in the 30 minute with Hersi scoring off a deflection from Santalab. Hersi ecstatic with the match winning goal jumped the fence into a RBB moshpit. The very short history book between the two sides was also on the Wanderers with the side scoring first always winning the match.

Central Coast played better in the second half with a number of chances to level the scores to take the game into extra time. The Wanderers appeared to be on the back foot.

La Rocca ensured that wasn’t the case scoring the second goal perfectly timed during the Poznań ensuring half the crowd missed the actual goal. The fans were on their feet for the rest of the match.

Mark Bridge was injured in the 60 minute and maybe in doubt for next week’s Grand Final.

The Grand Final will kick off at Saturday from 4pm against either Melbourne Victory or Brisbane Roar. Brisbane are favoured to win tomorrow’s second Semi Final as the top team of the A-league by far this season.

Thee Wanderers and their fans will be hoping for Melbourne victory as it would the Wanderers will score a home Grand Final in Sydney.
