Wanderers Struggle Bringing in New Year

The Western Sydney Wanderers played out a dull and lifeless 0-0 draw with Central Coast Mariners on Thursday night in their A-League clash at Parramatta Stadium.

Both sides are languishing down the A-League ladder, and this match did nothing to give supporters of either side hope following one of the poorest performances this season.

The Wanderers and Mariners were both desperate for the three points on offer, but neither did little to show this during the 90 minutes, with only 7 shots on target during the match.

The game never really got into any rhythm, with the match being contained in the middle third of a very hot and humid Parramatta Stadium in front of a frustrated crowd of over 14,000 people.

Highlights were few and far between, with Wanderers’ striker Nikita Rukavytsya having opportunities to put the home side in front, but in a sign of their season, couldn’t convert them into goals despite golden chances.

The tension among the fans was evident after the game, with members of the RBB directing comments towards Shannon Cole and Ante Covic. It’s believed the comments may have been in relation to the recently completed Club World Cup in Morocco.

The Wanderers have one more match before the Asian Cup break, when they host Melbourne Victory on Tuesday night at Parramatta Stadium. Anything less than a surprise win will further heighten the tension and frustration being felt by supporters and broadcasters alike.

The match will be broadcast live online on www.893fm.com.au with Nick Kutnjak, Matt Connellan and Will Gotsis bringing you the action from 7pm at Parramatta Stadium.
