Wattle Grove residents are petitioning for a post office to be installed in the Wattle Grove shopping centre to save them from travelling to Liverpool.

Liverpool Champion reported that the development has been approved by the centre management of the shopping plaza, but residents need the support of Australia Post for the project to go ahead.

Residents including Dina and James Sidrak, have met with Opposition Leader John Robertson and Menai MP Melanie Gibbons, who each say they are in favour of the development.

Mrs Sidrak hopes the petition, which can be found outside the Wattle Grove Newsagency and is online, will give residents enough pushing power to get the project approved.

“We currently have to travel to George Street Post office in Liverpool to collect parcels — which is inconvenient,” she said.

“There are families with kids who struggle to carry parcels and cross streets with kids around and parking is a hassle.

“We also have elderly residents who don’t drive and are forced to catch a bus to pay bills.”

Mrs Sidrak said that Wattle Grove deserved the development because it is a growing suburb, with residents from other areas such as Voyager Point, Sandy Point and Pleasure Point also relying on Wattle Grove as their closest shopping centre.

The online petition has 250 votes.
