Yes, the year has rolled on and we are coming up to the AGM August 23 2016 at 7.30pm.
Have you visited Carnes Hill Marketplace lately? On Saturday 30th July there will be the Carnes Hill Community and Recreation Precinct Open Day. We will be conducting an outside broadcast on the Community Radio Stage from 12pm to 4pm. Come along, Say Hello. Give us a hand. We would love to see you there.
If you have not been in the studio lately you could be in for a surprise. Very little has changed except in studio 2 where facilities have been added to the desk for microphones for Guests 2 and 3. We are all looking forward to Studio 2 being fully functioning.
Congratulations to Haroon Khan, the inaugural winner of the Station Award. Haroon has proven himself to be an outstanding member. Keep up the good work.
We had the Accountant in last week and of course the main business computer decided to have one of its dizzy spells, so we now have a new i7 computer on its way purchased by way of a Volunteer’s Grant. No more grinding noises; no more praying that all of this work can and will be saved and available next time we call it up.
Recently we were invited to the Rock ‘n Roll Jukebox Classics Show at the Mounties. This was a fundraiser for the Station and, even though the weather was chilly, everyone who attended really enjoyed the evening. Congratulations to Rob and his merry men who made the show run smoothly.
The Station Picnic would have been a washout if we had waited just one more day. Despite the rain, those who came along had a really great day.
As a Community Radio Station we are very fortunate in the variety of programs which we are able to bring to our listeners. Some of our programs cater for those who do not speak English well; these include Assyrian, Chinese, Filipino, Hindi and Gujarati, Indonesian, Italian, Khmer/Cambodian, Lao, Maltese and Serbian. Other groups are also in our line-up….. more about them next time.
Other ethnic groups are also catered including Bob Wright’s “Shades of Green” an Irish Music show on Wednesday night between 8 and 10pm and “Celtic Corner” on Tuesday afternoon from 3-5pm -where a smorgasbord of music from all of the Celtic Nations – Asturia, Galatia, Britany, Canada, Cornwall, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Scotland and Wales is the mix of the hours.
Australian Country is well catered for by many programs – a good time to start is between Noon and 2pm Monday to Friday, though you will also find Australian music mixed through a number of other programs. We are sorry to see Ninka leave us, she always did a magnificent job of bringing not only Australian music to our station, she could also tell you of the many places where she had travelled and make the songs really come to life. Terry and Pauline give you a great of variety of music on Thursday afternoon Noon to 2pm. You will never be disappointed!
Bob Browne whose program is Country On on Tuesday between Noon and 3pm is unable to do his show this week. Get well soon Bob, we miss you.
Have you got a favourite artist? Ollie Austin, a British Country singer is often heard on “Having Breakfast with Bill” on Saturday between 8-10am , or Tuesday morning between 6.30 -9am in “Magnificent Music Machine” – YES, you can call in and ask for any recorded track from Ollie Austin at this time – Clem has them all ready to go along with many other artists and their music.
We will feature the music of other programs soon, so that you can really appreciate the wide diversity of the programs which come to you through Your Local Station 89.3 2GLF.
We look forward to seeing you all at the Carnes Hill Community and Recreation Precinct Open Day and the Annual General Meeting.
