Facebook Blocks 89.3 2GLF

89.3 2GLF was impacted by to decision by Facebook on Thursday to inconsistently block content from media companies, community groups and government departments.

As it stands, our Facebook page remains blocked like many other community broadcasters.
Some of our volunteer program makers have also had their Facebook page blocked.

Facebook claims this is due to the Federal Government’s proposed Mandatory News Media Bargaining Code. Even though we are not included as part of that code, we have been included as part of that ban on their platform.

The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia is lobbying on behalf of the sector to get this ban lifted.

We will continue to monitor the situation to find the best way to work around this and we have already taken some actions to mitigate this decision by Facebook:

  • We have removed links to Facebook services from our website
  • We have set up a sign-up page for our audience to receive e-mail updates from us.
  • Station updates and local information will continue to be published on 893fm.com.au

Program makers that use Facebook, should consider other options for sharing content and connecting with their audience. It will be great if you let everyone know about our new newsletters as well.

We encourage program makers to get in touch if you need help. We can host your content on our website, set up a newsletter on our e-mail platform and will try to help where else we can with our limited resources.
