Understanding our community

download (3)As shown at the Australian Mara time Museum, Escape from Vietnam is a collection of photographs and media that tell the forgotten stories of much of the local Vietnamese population.
With debate around refugees still raging, many of us have forgotten that the mass migration of Vietnamese people in the 70s is considered one of the biggest scale migrations in history.
Running for poverty, destitution and persecution many Vietnamese people came to Australia where they found freedom and become an essential part of the the Australian Community.
The exhibit was collected by the Archive of Vietnamese Boat People that wanted to bring these stories to life and give people a chance to look back on how far they have come.
I spoke to volunteer, Van Son Nguyen about the effect of the exhibit and it’s ability to help people appreciate their pasts and value their future.
