Federal Government confirmed it will pitch in $87.5 million, matching the State Government contribution for the M5 upgrade project to build new exit ramps and a bridge over the Georges River at Moorebank.
The project will make it easier for motorists to exit the motorway at Moorebank Avenue and Hume Highway.
Currently, motorists traveling westbound M5 Motorway through Moorebank experience traffic congestion in the afternoon peak caused by traffic entering the motorway westbound at Moorebank Avenue, and merging with traffic already on the motorway that is looking to exit at Hume Highway.
With more heavy vehicles traveling from the Moorebank Intermodal Park when it opens, additional congestion is expected. The project is expected to start next year and is forecast to be completed by 2025.
