Programming from Home

With limited access to our studio complex, Coronavirus has for the moment changed the way we produce our programming at 89.3 2GLF.

What is still working and operating as per normal

  • 89.3FM
  • On Demand
  • Live Streaming
  • All other day-to-day administration of the co-operative

What is not available

  • Studio complex
  • Incoming phone services – do not provide the phone number on air at the moment
  • Run sheets. Please continue to play CSAs and in particular the Coronavirus CSAs.
We will let you know if your program has any special sponsorship announcements to be played.

The following facilities are available to presenters:

  • Record your entire program at home
Perfect for the technically savvy, you can produce a program including voice tracks, music, and other programming elements. You are only limited by your equipment and imagination. The CMTO has produced a simple guide on the process – Recording from Home guide.
  • Record voice segments for your program
This is an ideal option for programs that just want to record the voice segments of the program and have a generic playlist. You can also record your segment from all sorts of devices including your mobile phone or tablet.  https://www.wikihow.com/Record-Audio-on-a-Mobile-Phone
  • Arrange to present your program by telephone
For those that are not tech-savvy enough to set up a studio setup at home – Chris has been kind enough to do it for you – with a makeshift studio at home for now.You can broadcast a show live to air or recorded for later by booking with  upload@893fm.com.au .
  • Station IDs, CSAs and Promos
For those recording at home, we have a collection of Station IDs, CSAs and Promo uploaded on a Google Drive for your use.
  • How to record guests or multiple presenters – Zoom
Zoom is a video conferencing tool with a record functionality that can export an audio file. It is perfect for interviewing a guest instead of using the telephone or recording your segments when you have more than one presenter. Adding the video into the mix (even if it is not shown to the public) all presenters to have a more free-flowing conversation.Once you have recorded your audio file you can incorporate it within your own recordings or opt to send to us a segment.

Zoom has produced a good support article on how to record locally.

  • Simian Remote
Produce a live program in Studio 1 remotely with the Simian Remote feature. Let  upload@893fm.com.au know if you are keen to use this option.
  • Have another idea?
    Let us know at upload@893fm.com.au

Sending completed programs & voice segments
Email completed programs or segments to upload@893fm.com.au.

Provide files in MP3 format and ideally no more than an hour at a time. Use a drop-box style service for sending larger files.

Whenever possible, send the content over earlier than later. If it required to be aired today or tomorrow, contact us first to make sure we can support the turnaround time.

Do I need to buy anything:
This new way of working may be required for many months – these arrangements will be temporary in nature. There is no need to invest in any equipment for the long term.

The one item we can highly recommend if you don’t already have one is a good quality microphone. In-built smartphone, tablet or laptop microphones are okay but not as good as a good quality microphone.

If you are planning to buy one, do so now. As accessing shops and stock may be limited.

Can I borrow equipment?
We have some limited equipment available to members to borrow during this period including laptops and other audio accessories.

You will need to act quickly, as it is first in best dressed.

What can I use to edit my program or audio files:
There are two main programs for editing audio:
Audacity – free software!
Adobe Audition often expensive but can be purchased on a month-by-month basis
