Sydney’s hottest New Years Day dance party Space Ibiza plans to bring out Sydney’s inner Geisha with Space Pres Kehakuma

The Space brand is world famous for incredible production and wild and wacky theming that makes for a surreal, exciting and sexy experience.

This year organisers plan to create a post-modern Japanese concept that distorts the cultural experience like sound warps from a Bassdrop set.

Stilt walkers, dancers, and carnival folk – join the Ibiza fun as they have in Space Ibiza since 1989.

Dress up post-modern, edgy and Japanese.  Open the makeup kit and go for Kabuki colours – red, black, white and gold. Hitch up your kimono, grab your chopsticks – this year promises to be massive.
New to the bill –Drum Bass legend Mr Doris – as well as Australia’s very own Royalston.

Space Ibiza organiser Paul Strange says: “just like in Spain we’re going all out.  Party goers can expect a rich and memorable New Years Day filled with awesome experiences for all the senses.”

Space Pres Kehakuma is headlined by one of the world’s most highly regarded house and techno stars SETH TROXLER, and one of the best remixers and producers around – Rekids label head honcho RADIOSLAVE.

The line-up also includes EDDIE RICHARDS – Britain’s original godfather of house and techno and long standing Fabric resident with over 25 years behind the decks, and Parisian JEF K – one of Paris’s longest serving house deejays famous for club classic “In My System”.

Italian maestro and Space resident REMO – on the terrace since 2005, and UK underground house and badboy party monster GARRY TODD – whose credits include a six year residency at Spice After Hours and residency at Carl Cox’s revolution party also join the party.

Last year’s Festival favourite BASS DROP returns to host a room, with Hospitality Record’s hero B-COMPLEX and Dubstep Dynamos, CHASING SHADOWS.

Space organizers say some of Sydney’s finest local talent are being added to the lineup, making Space’s opening party down under the hottest New Years Day ticket for house music fans.

Second release tickets are now on sale for $74 and are extremely limited. Book early so you don’t miss out.  Jump on http://spaceibizafestival.com.au for details, tickets and regular updates on all things Space.

Lifestart Kayak for Kids 2012

Lifestart Kayak for Kids is New South Wales’ own unique paddling event that attracts competitors and spectators from all over Sydney to benefit Lifestart’s early childhood intervention services for children with a disability or developmental delay. Set to take place on Sunday 25 March 2012, paddlers will face the challenge of paddling beautiful Sydney Harbour in a variety of paddle craft in an exciting 17.5km race from Blues Point to Clontarf.

The race has been run for the past four years and Kayak for Kids 2012 will once again expose participants to what kayak racing is all about with the inspiring backdrop of the harbour and bridge. Serious kayakers are welcome to participate in this one of a kind time trial as it hugs the northern shores in solo or double craft. And, for the novice kayaker, the course runs in four stages of approximately 4.5km for competitors to form relay teams of up to 12 people. The race will see paddlers extend their paddling accomplishments while promoting a friendly rivalry amongst participants in the quest to win the Corporate Challenge Cup.

Kayak for Kids is Lifestart’s major annual fundraising event and paddlers are asked to raise as much as they can in support of Lifestart’s specialist services for children with a disability. Former World Ironman champion, Guy Leech, is the event ambassador for the second year running and will be racing again in 2012. Guy was impressed by people’s willingness to get in the water and have a go… “Kayak for Kids is a unique paddling challenge on beautiful Sydney Harbour for everyone from beginner to serious kayaker. It is also a great opportunity for kayakers to raise money for kids with disability whilst paddling past the city’s icons including Luna Park, the Opera House and Fort Denison before heading into middle harbour and on to leafy Clontarf for the Lifestart family picnic. So get your family, friends and workmates together and come out for a fantastic day on the water.”

Lifestart Kayak for Kids is the perfect vehicle for family, friends and workmates to enjoy the harbour in a unique team building event while supporting Lifestart. There are a limited number of sponsorship opportunities available for the event giving businesses the benefit of positive promotion as supporters of children with a disability in our community.

Entries will open in November 2011 at www.kayakforkids.com.au and more information on the event in 2012 can be obtained by contacting Kirra McNamara on 0424 150 062 or email kirrilymcnamara@lifestart.org.au.

The show will Take place on the 24th March 2012 at Club Marconi at 8:00pm and cost of tickets will be $15.00

Giuliano, the Adriano Celentano impersonator was born in Sardinia.

In his hometown Oristano he became well known for his sense of humour and his permanent joking mood.

At the age of 16 Giuliano started imitating Adriano Celentano.

Due to his outstanding talent of being able to not only personify but also imitate and parody the original artists it did not take long before he was spotted by an Italian artist agency that represented Giuliano and made him participate in various talent competitions. He also did shows on TV and broadcast. In Rome Giuliano made the first place in a star impersonator competition with his show in which he personified 28 characters in only 6 minutes. Again he did shows on RAIUNO.

At the age of only 22 Giuliano already was an asked for comedian in Italy who charmed his audience with his natural wit and charisma as well as with his inspiring humour.

Only two years later he was already booked for cabaret shows with Ezio Greggio on CANALE 5. Giuliano is intensively working on new show concepts that represent his commitment, his diversity, spontaneity and even his spirit for the humorous. So it’s no surprise that he already does perfect imitations of more than 100 characters.

Just a few examples of his repertoire:

Adriano Celentano, the Pope, Zucchero, E. Ramazotti, L. Armstrong, Toto Cutugno, Maradona, D. Modugno, and many more.

At the age of 25 Giuliano came to Germany for the first time where he started a new career. He also gained further international experience in Miami Beach, New Jersey, Atlantic City, California and Canada where he did shows in Italian-American festivities.

In October 1995 Giuliano did a concert together with Toto Cutugno, Ricchi e Poveri, Riccardo Fogli, Pupo and Adriano Celentano’s daughter Rosalinda.

Sydney Festival Parramatta

Parra Opening Party

January 14 free

Everyone is invited to a huge opening party offering a whole host of free events across the city. From the opulent Idolize Spiegeltent in Prince Alfred Park to the Old King’s School site, from the riverside precinct to Church St; Parramatta is transformed by big bands, soulful singers, top DJs and street theatre spectaculars.

In the last few years with Festival First Night, Sydney Festival has shown that Sydneysiders love to come out into the city streets to enjoy music, theatre and entertainment – especially if it’s all free!

Now it’s Parramatta’s turn as the city comes alive Parra Opening Party, with wandering performers, musicians and mobile sound systems entertaining audiences in the parks, on the streets and along the
riverfront.

Across the road from Prince Alfred Park, Information and Cultural Exchange (ICE) throws open its doors for free activities for young people.

For those who know Parramatta, this is a fantastic opportunity to see the city in a new light. For those who don’t know Parramatta, this is the perfect opportunity to take a look.

Visit www.sydneyfestival.org.au/parramatta for updates

No BYO alcohol, no glass. Food and beverages are on sale throughout the event at Eat Street on Church St.

THE PARTY STARTS IN THE AFTERNOON
Bring the kids down to Prince Alfred Park from 4pm as Holly Throsby and her band kick off the afternoon
with a fantastical set of children’s songs from her album See!
Kids can join in our workshops, learn circus tricks and be entertained by roving performers, while your hosts, The List Operators, keep everyone
laughing.

THE IDOLIZE SPIEGELTENT IN PRINCE AFRED PARK
Sydney Festival’s newest venue is the sister of The Famous Spiegeltent which pops up in Sydney’s Hyde Park every January. The Idolize Spiegeltent is a Baroque-style mirror tent that will be open throughout the afternoon and evening for everyone to have a look. Throughout the following week, this grand old gal of a tent will play host to a wondrous line-up of cabaret, music and mayhem.

CHURCH STREET
Church Street will be non-stop music from world-wide favourite DJ, Norman Jay. Renowned for his marathon efforts at UK’s Notting Hill Carnival, Norman Jay will park his iconic double-decker bus for a
seven hour set of feel good summer tunes, creating an all-ages street party in the heart of Parramatta.
We want everyone to join in, so there’ll be some dance lessons, and well as surprise dance performances in the crowd. Don’t miss your chance to dance in Church St.

Everyone in Parramatta knows that Eat Street is the most important place in town. For Parra Opening Party, all the restaurants will be open selling a wide range of food and beverages.

In the evening, crowds will gather at the Victoria Rd end of Church St for a spectacular piece of aerial theatre. As The World Tipped is a real life disaster movie performed live in the night sky!
This ambitious and extraordinary piece of theatre tells a powerful tale of ecological crisis. Combining dramatic film and visuals with breath-taking aerial performance, As The World Tipped confronts one of the most pressing issues for the planet with spectacle, humour and emotion.
At the Secretariat of the Copenhagen Climate Change conference, harassed staff fail to notice as the world around them, literally and metaphorically, slides toward disaster. Suspended above the audience in the night sky, the performers struggle to control their increasingly precarious world as they do battle with the effects of drastic environmental catastrophe.

Written and directed by Nigel Jamieson, one of the world’s leading creators of outdoor spectacle (Sydney Olympics, Liverpool Capital of Culture), As The World Tipped has been created with the pioneering team from Wired Aerial Theatre.

OLD KING’S SCHOOL SITE
At the Old King’s School site prepare for a wonderful double bill.

The evening starts with the Barefoot Divas, six soulful singers/songwriters from Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Each a star in her own right, together they are a force to be reckoned with!
The Divas share hilarious and heartfelt stories of life on the stage and on the road, fortified by deep connections to their land and culture. They are: Helpmann Award winner Ursula Yovich (Serbia/Burarra)
and Black Arm Band favourite Emma Donovan (Gumbaynggirr) join Whirimako Black (Maori), Maisey Rika (Maori), Merenia (Maori/Roma) and Ngaiire (Papua New Guinea).

Then the mighty brass and swirling violins of Europe’s magnificent Taraf de Haïdouks and Koçani Orkestar lift off into an exhilarating celebration of the night.
Be ready for a raucous evening of wild new music and exhilarating arrangements of old favourites as the swirling and fiery violins, cimbalums and accordions of Taraf de Haïdouks battle it out with the mighty, funky brass and percussion of Koçani Orkestar. Expect the unexpected as the two bands draw on traditional Romanian music, urban Balkan pop, medieval ballads, oriental brass, Turkish influences and even a touch of Bollywood.

There is still lots more to be announced for Parra Opening Party – keep an eye on the Sydney Festival website for updates.
